One of the most versatile restorations we offer at Garden City Implant Dental is a dental crown. Whether you have a broken, brittle, or discoloured tooth, a dental crown may be just what you need to repair any damage and restore your tooth's strength.
What Is a Dental Crown?
A dental crown is a hollow cap made from porcelain, zirconia, or other materials that fit over your natural tooth. Because of its stability and protective qualities, a dental crown can:
- Restore a broken or worn down tooth
- Strengthen a natural tooth’s structure
- Protect a tooth weakened by decay or a root canal
- Hold a dental bridge in place
- Cover a dental implant
- Conceal a severely stained or discoloured tooth
- Preserve a natural tooth to avoid extraction
Crowns extend and restore teeth to their optimal function so one can eat, speak, chew, bite, laugh and smile.
How Does a Dental Crown Work?
The dental crown process is simple and relatively painless for most patients. Before determining if you’re a candidate for a dental crown, we review your complete medical and dental histories, perform a full-mouth examination, and take any necessary x-rays.
If Dr Wong concludes that a dental crown is the best treatment for your needs, he shapes the tooth to ensure the crown fits. If your natural tooth isn’t strong enough on its own to hold the crown, Dr Wong will build up the tooth with a filling material.
He also takes impressions of your mouth and sends the results to a dental laboratory that creates your customised crowns for your new smile.
In the meantime, Dr Wong can provide you with a temporary crown so you can still chew, smile, laugh, and talk with comfort and ease. When your permanent crown is ready, Dr Wong places and polishes it, ensuring that its shape and shade match your bite, facial features, and the rest of your smile.
Once we place the permanent dental crown, you can start enjoying the smile you have always wanted!
