Dentures and Partials in Booragoon, WA
Patients with tooth loss will find that we offer many solutions to complete their smiles here at Garden City Implant & Dental. Dentures remain a popular choice, especially as advancements have allowed fit and aesthetics to improve dramatically.
Complete (Full) Dentures
Complete dentures replace teeth for edentulous patients on the upper and lower arch to improve appearance, fill out the facial structure and improve dietary choices. A pink, resin base secures natural-looking artificial teeth designed to complement patients’ appearance.
Immediate dentures – When patients face extractions, immediate dentures can give patients a solution on the same day as their surgery, eliminating the need to go without teeth during the healing process.
Final dentures – Once the healing process completes after about 3 to 6 months, final dentures will replace immediate dentures with an accurate and long-term solution.
Partial Dentures
Partial dentures complete patients’ smiles when they retain some natural teeth, which provide an anchor for a partial denture to lock into place with wire clasps.
The bases for partial dentures come in a variety of options:
- Metal base – sturdy and reliable
- Resin base – lightweight and aesthetic
- Flexible base – gentle comfort
Dr James Wong will discuss all of your options and the benefits and limitations of each so you can make a decision that works well for your budget and lifestyle.
Implant-Supported Dentures
For some patients, traditional dentures pose a challenge and may slip or move when speaking and eating. This may cause patients to limit their social interactions because of concerns regarding denture mishaps. Implant-supported dentures add extra stability, keeping dentures from moving.
Dr Wong will plan placement for 4 to 6 dental implants on each arch to lock dentures in place. Implant dentures lock into implants in two different ways:
Bar-retained dentures – dental implants attach to a small bar to secure dentures
Ball-retained dentures – small ball clasps on implants lock dentures and stabilise them
Implant-supported dentures remain securely attached to implants until released for cleaning or eating.
A comprehensive exam will help us determine available options, so your dentures give you the confidence and versatility you deserve.
Denture Cleaning and Care
Caring properly for dentures will prevent bacteria growth and odours. Complete dentures should never dry out, as they may distort and fail to fit properly. Storing them in a cleanser designed for dentures will reduce tartar build-up and keep them moist.
Partial and complete dentures should be gently cleaned with a non-abrasive brush to remove food and plaque. Using abrasive cleaners may scratch dentures and allow bacteria to develop.
When you receive your new dentures, we will discuss how to care for them properly, so you get the most out of your investment. We also encourage you to bring them to your appointment so we can make any necessary adjustments and examine them for damage.
