Extractions in Booragoon, WA

Extracting a tooth is never a decision to take lightly, and Garden City Implant & Dental offers a number of ways to protect and repair natural teeth. In some cases, however, extracting troublesome teeth is necessary to improve oral health or eliminate pain.

Woman with jaw pain | Extractions BooragoonConditions that may require extractions include:

  • Deep decay
  • Broken teeth
  • Infection or pain
  • Former root canal-treated teeth
  • Symptomatic wisdom teeth
  • Orthodontic treatment

Toothaches do not always result in extraction, though it is one option. Infected teeth are often restored with root canal treatment or by removing decay and placing a dental crown over the tooth.

An exam with Dr James Wong will allow him to formulate an accurate diagnosis and present possible treatment options for you to choose from. At Garden City Implant & Dental, we always discuss all of your options because we respect your choices when it comes to the future of your smile.

Dental Emergency | Booragoon WAExtraction Procedure

We minimise discomfort associated with dental procedures for a pain-free patient experience. We offer different options for sedation to ensure each patient chooses the option that is most suited for their procedure. The practice offers oral sedation, inhalation sedation and IV (twilight) sedation. We also work closely with a medical anaesthetist for patients who request or may benefit from IV (twilight) sedation. In most cases, a local anaesthetic will be enough to ensure your comfort.

We begin by gently loosening the tooth and then lift it from the gums. If a surgical extraction is necessary, stitches will assist with healing the tissue. Post-surgical instruction and pain management options will be discussed to ensure proper healing and comfort during the process.

Teeth Replacement Options

Removing a tooth will allow for remaining teeth to shift and may impact the comfort and function of your bite. Choosing to replace a missing tooth with a dental implant or bridge will keep teeth from drifting and improve your smile.

Wisdom Teeth Extractions

The final molars to emerge are the third molars, or wisdom teeth, located at the very back of the mouth. If insufficient space inhibits wisdom teeth from erupting properly, they become impacted. This means that may only partially erupt or may remain unable to break through the gum tissue.

Impacted wisdom teeth may cause overcrowding, pain or infection. A wisdom teeth evaluation will help Dr Wong determine if you could benefit from having them removed. Dr Wong is very experienced in the field of wisdom teeth removal. With the experience of over 30,000 wisdom teeth extractions and accepting referrals from many other dentists for this procedure over the last ten years, you can rest assured that you are in very good hands.

When patients opt to retain their wisdom teeth, it is important to keep the teeth and the surrounding gums clean and healthy. Their location at the back of the mouth makes them more difficult to reach, but a little extra attention when brushing and flossing will help.
