Do you treat snoring?

Snoring | Snoring Treatment BooragoonSnoring can indicate the presence of sleep apnoea, but not always. Sometimes snoring is simply a noisy nuisance that awakens you or your partner, preventing a restful night’s sleep.

Snoring often worsens with certain medications and the consumption of alcohol. A cold, allergies or a sinus infection can also cause snoring volume to rise.

At Garden City Implant & Dental, we treat both snoring and sleep apnoea using continuous open airway therapy (COAT). A custom oral appliance will gently guide the lower jaw forward, reducing blockage and vibration common during sleep.

Lifestyle changes that can also assist with reduced snoring:

  • Maintaining a healthy weight
  • Avoiding alcohol
  • Sleeping on a regular schedule

Bruxism, or teeth grinding, has also been linked to snoring and sleep apnoea.

If you or your partner suffers from snoring, it is a good idea to rule out sleep apnoea, as it complicates overall health and wellness. A sleep study with a qualified sleep practitioner will reveal if you have a simple case of snoring or you require sleep apnoea treatment.

We work with SomnoDent, a company that creates oral appliances to reduce sleep-disordered breathing so that our patients achieve the restorative sleep necessary for a healthy body.
